Cristina
Mariscal
Cristina Mariscal did not always have healthy relations. Growing
up in a single parent home, she seldom had anyone to talk to and
explain the changes she endured through adolescence, but she quickly
found resolution with her homeboys in the streets of Oakland, California.
Her childhood experience was filled with abuse, drugs, and violence,
all part of a destructive cycle that adversely affected her self
esteem and confidence. The consequences would lead her into unhealthy
relationships and eventually teen pregnancy.
Determined to end the cycle of despair, and with the help of
spiritual guides, teachers and school counselors, Cristina
found her path through the teachings of Aztec dancing in
Grupo Cuauhtonal. Discovering her power and inner strength,
Cristina was able to graduate from high school, later becoming
a community leader, health educator and spiritual leader, Cristina
describes her path towards positive self esteem and healthy relations
to youth throughout her community.
Cristina provides presentations and workshops to youth regarding
positive self esteem, healthy decision making, and pregnancy prevention.
Her presentation is also available in Spanish for Spanish speaking
audiences.
